Open your mind, expand your horizons, look beyond your world.  God is here, God is there, God is Everywhere.  God Is. God's power is unfathomable. No matter how much we think we know that (or doubt that) ... we still will not ever know the depth of that power. The very same Force whose grand plan set the billions and billions of stars of the universe into motion billions and billions of years ago, that very same Force, placed on our tiny planet the tiniest flea that bit the first dog that was the best friend of the first man who loved the first woman that gave birth to the first child of their union. And the Force said it was very good.

Now here we are. We humans. Thinking and thinking. Debating and arguing. Believing and doubting. Some of us believe in many gods. Some of us continue to doubt the existence of any God. Some of us turn God into what we want Him to be. Some of us claim to know the intentions of God. Some of us follow one leader, some of us follow a different leader. Some of us claim that God speaks to us. Some call us crazy.   Who knows?  Only the Force.

I once looked at the stars and doubted the God of religion. I wondered how a God so powerful could give a hoot about one so small in comparison to the universe.  My journey in faith has changed that somewhat.  I still have some religious concerns; but I do not doubt God or God's capacity for loving me.  Now I look into the heavens and see the things of God's Creation and realize that anything with the power to put all of that into motion could very well also have enough reserve power to spare a little for loving his creations. What we do to return that love is up to us as individuals. Hopefully, it will align with God's intention for us.

With the abilities that have been endowed upon our earthly human race, we have made great strides in observing the universe.  The Hubble Space telescope has brought great galaxies into focus. (A picture from Hubble of one of these galaxies(M51) is the background for this web page.)These millions of galaxies contain billions of stars. Some of these billions of stars may be the heart of solar systems made up of a planet or two like ours.  Some say that all of this is accidental? It just happened!  Who knows?

All I can do is repeat the old analogy of the swiss clock:  If you put all of the pieces required to build a clock into a barrel and set it spinning for a billion or so years, what would you end up with?  A totally functional, accidental clock? Or a mangled mess? You decide. Is it really possible for something to come from nothing without some kind of intervention?

If you are interested in checking out some of those "accidental" clocks,  observe some of the pictures of and information on spiral galaxies in our known universe at the following web site: http://www.noao.edu/image_gallery/spiral_galaxies.html. You can set your clock by them.

May the Force be with you,

Tom
